CAFES (Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability) is a network of local environmental and climate leaders in the city of Ottawa. CAFES was founded in 2010 and federally incorporated as a non-profit in 2021. Our network includes over 250 individual and organizational representatives from across 20 wards and over 50 neighbourhoods. Our organizational members are urban, suburban and rural community associations, environmental organizations and citizens’ groups. Our individual members are citizens who are active in their communities and concerned with living in ecological balance. The mission of CAFES is to create and safeguard a more healthy, resilient and livable city by means of local action, advocacy and community building.

Become a conservation trailblazer in your community while still maintaining your other commitments, having fun and making connections. The program is open to all regardless of physical, economic, or other barriers; this is a no cost program with free enrollment that encourages youth of all ability levels and outdoor experience to join.

Centretown NeighbourWoods is a community-based tree inventory, monitoring and stewardship program. NeighbourWoods is designed to help community groups and volunteers conduct an inventory of their urban forest and use that information to inform urban forest stewardship in their communities and neighbourhoods. NeighbourWoods is also an exciting way of being active, interacting with the people in your community and learning all about the trees close to where you live. The Centretown NeighbourWoods team was formed in 2021 to promote actions that protect and enhance the urban tree canopy within Centretown and beyond. These efforts will help mitigate local impacts of climate change.
